How a clip gets its virality score
ClipAI rates every short clip from 0 to 100 before you post it. Five dimensions are each graded from 0 to 1 against written anchors, then combined in code with fixed weights (hook 25%, emotion 20%, clarity 20%, quotability 20%, value 15%) into one score with a one-line reason. After you post, the score sits next to the clip's real views, so you can see whether it was right.
Why most creators quit in year one
Sample score - this is what you get
The five dimensions
- 25%
Hook
Whether the first spoken line stops the scroll. Openings that start mid-tension with a specific number, a bold or contrarian claim, or an open question score high; greetings and setup score low.
- 20%
Emotion
Whether a viewer feels something: a laugh, a raw confession, awe, or a frustration named exactly. Dry procedural talk scores low.
- 20%
Clarity
Whether the moment makes complete sense with zero context. References like "like I said" or an unnamed "he" pull it down.
- 20%
Quotability
Whether one line survives out of context as a caption or on-screen text - the thing a repost travels on.
- 15%
Value
How much usable insight per second: concrete, non-obvious takeaways score high, one point stretched with filler scores low.
What caps the hook
The hook carries the most weight because it decides whether anyone sees the rest. These openings cap the hook grade at 0.3, however good the clip is after them:
- A greeting ("hey guys", "welcome back")
- "Have you ever wondered..."
- Filler openers like "okay so" or "so basically"
- A claim that only works if the viewer already trusts you
Checked against real views
A score is an estimate, so ClipAI checks itself. Paste the link of any post you made and the clip's real views (or, on Bluesky, its likes, replies and reposts) appear next to the score it predicted. Every clip also carries a tracked link that counts the clicks it drove.
Questions
- How is the score calculated?
- Each dimension is scored from 0 to 1 against written anchors, then combined in code with fixed weights: hook 25%, emotion 20%, clarity 20%, quotability 20%, value 15%. The result is shown as a score out of 100 with a one-line reason.
- Can I score a clip for free?
- No. Scoring is part of every ClipAI plan, from $12/month; there is no free tier. Subscribers can score any short clip, not only the clips ClipAI finds.
- What can be scored?
- Clips up to 60 seconds and 30 MB, or the opening minute of a TikTok or YouTube link. Clips with no speech are scored on visuals: action, faces, scene variety and on-screen text.
- Does a high score guarantee views?
- No. It is an estimate of how well the clip is built to hold attention. After you post, ClipAI shows the score next to the clip's real views where the platform reports them, so you can see how well it predicted.
